Alternative Sources of Energy and Energy Conservation

Solar Energy

Solar Panel works by absorbing sunlight with photovoltaic cells, generating direct current (DC) energy and then converting it to usable alternating current (AC) energy with the help of inverter technology. Photovoltaic cells absorb the sun’s energy and convert it to DC electricity.

Solar Panel

Maximizing natural light, which cannot only save on lighting requirements and (subsequently energy cost), but can also help keep buildings warm in colder months and using renewable energy to power the building – for example installing a commercial solar panel system.

Biogas Plant

Mahendra Arts & Science College (Autonomous) practises segregation of solid waste and its effective waste management in the campus. The collected waste is segregated at the source of the generation, the waste bins are placed separately for dry and wet waste in all the blocks, canteen etc. The wet and dry waste are collected and dumped in the biogas plant to convert waste into energy.

Sensor -based energy Conservation

Solar Panel has been established in our college through which 6 solar lights with 60 watts and 3with round shaped 120 watts lights have been fixed in various places.

LED Bulbs

The institution explores every possibility to save electric power to the extent possible. More than 50% of the lights are changed to LED and by that way a considerable amount of electric power is saved every day. Nearly 30,000 watts will be saved every month.

Diesel Generator

A Diesel generator is a power generating unit which converts the mechanical energy into Electricity. Diesel is much more economical than petrol or gasoline. They are also fuel – efficient and can produce more electricity per litre of diesel. Solar energy is a renewable energy source.
