To aim to make the students handle accounts in business firms through quality commerce education & skill oriented courses that enhance their self- confidence and make them aware of their strength and rightful place in society.
To prepare leaders through progressive learning by providing intensive training programme through practical exposure in accounting procedures in order to analyze complex business problems and arrive at solutions.
The Department of Commerce was established in 1999 with 30 students. The PG [M.COM &M.COM (CA)]course was started in the year 2004, M.Phil., program in 2013 and Ph.D., program was started in 2014. At present 750 students are studying in Commerce Department. The Department of Commerce promotes quality education in commerce and empower students to develop their knowledge and skills in all fields of commerce. Intensive coaching is given to the students to achieve their academic excellence and train to equip them with self confidence. Great achievement are made throughout the journey by winning awards in academic and cultural competitions at inter collegiate level. The Periyar University Gold Medal was bagged by B.Com Students G.MAHALAKSHMI during 2014-15.

The Department of Commerce [CA] of Mahendra Arts & Science College as a part of the Community and Extension Activities organized a meet with Silk Saree Producers on Thursday 7th April 2016.
In the meet the Silk Saree Producers, co-operative society weavers, and faculty members participated. Mr. Vinoth, president Vempadithalam Silk Saree Producers Union was the Chief Guest and Dr.R.K. Vaithiyanathan, Principal, Mahendra Arts and Science College presided over the meet and deliver the key note address.
The program was organized by the Head of the Department of Commerce [CA] Dr. Josephine Daisy, Faculties Prof. S. Jagadeesan, Professor. S. Jothipriya, Professor. N. Srinivasan, Professor. V. Sudha, Professor. T. Silambuselvan and Professor. K. Suthakar. The programme had interaction session where they discussed the problem and looked ahead for the remedial steps to be taken by the government. The meet was a fruitful one.
